| Blue-black Grosbeak Cyanoloxia cyanoides (aka Cyanocompsa cyanoides, Passerina cyanoides) |

| Rio Cristalino, Mato Grosso, Brazil Having thought a lot about the identification of the bird in photo 1, we came to the conclusion that it was a subadult male Blue-black Grosbeak. This was on the basis that it had many of the physical features of the species and its colouring was about halfway between the deep blue black of the male and the deep cocoa brown of the female. It was flitting between the ground and this perch in the rather scrubby vegetation at the top of the Serra Trail at Cristalino. |
